Climate Matters has signed up to the UN 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact today in order to support driving systemic change in the generation and consumption of electricity. The 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) Compact is an ambitious global effort to accelerate the decarbonization of the world’s electricity systems to mitigate climate change, to enable organizations to meet their full electricity demand with carbon-free resources and ensure access to clean and affordable electricity for all, in line with #SDG7.
Given transport and heating are moving more into the electrical space, we need the grid to decarbonise faster than it currently has been, connect more renewable electricity but also managing the increased demand for electricity from these growing sectors.
Not an insignificant challenge across many fronts but with the signatories to “gocarbonfree247” focussing on solving these challenges, we are delighted to lend our support. To date renewable electricity projects designers have typically aimed to maximise the output from their site as payment was made based upon total MWhrs and not related to the time-factor or when the end consumer needed it. We believe this initiative can drive the correct technologies to be located in the right location and used at the optimum time.
